Madison City Velo Club

The Madison City Velo Club is a club based in the Madison, Wisconsin area for racing cyclists who view enjoyment of the sport as the most important goal.  As our name indicates, we are a Racing club.  Our members are motivated by competition and are comfortable in a competitive environment. Somewhat uniquely, the word Citizen is also in our name, indicating that we strive to keep competitive aspirations within the larger context of fitness, camaraderie and enjoyment.  This balanced philosophy allows us to accommodate a larger range of racers and would-be racers than most bicycle racing clubs.  The Mad City Velo Club strives to be the most welcoming point of entry to the world of bike racing and a place where recreational racers are supported and encouraged throughout their sporting lives.  

Training Rides
The club maintains a regular ride schedule throughout the cycling season, generally April through September. We also try to throw in a few spontaneous rides during more inclement months to build some character and keep us on the bike in the off season. Our rides are based in the south central Wisconsin area. 

Tuesday and Thursday evenings are our regular club training rides.  Most of these are challenging rides with the purpose of improving fitness and racing skills, but sometimes we designate easier-paced social rides, typically involving post-ride food and libations.  Feel free to view our rides on the main page and ride start locations to join us on our next ride.

Racing Venues
As a citizen racing club, the WISport racing series is our principal venue.  Wisport shares our racing philosophy and caters to non-licensed racers throughout the Midwest. The Wisport series includes approximately 30 races throughout the summer, offering medals and year end awards in age, gender and team categories in a friendly social atmosphere. 

Although citizen road racing is our central focus, our members also compete in USCF, ABR, cyclocross, and mountain bike races, as well as triathlons and adventure races.  Mad City Velo jerseys are also common at area charity rides and centuries.  We encourage and support our teammates in all of these venues and take pride in their accomplishments.

Sponsored Races
Each year the club sponsors 2 events in the WISport calendar. The Blue Mounds Classic Road Race and a Time Trial later in the season.

Community Involvement
The club recognizes the importance of giving back to the community where we ride.  In that spirit, we participate in the Dane County adopt-a-highway program for a portion of our Blue Mounds Classic course.
